The School of Communication Ethics (SCE) is a worldwide digital learning centre with a local presence in the beautiful mountains of central Portugal.
Learning Programmes
Combining communication ethics [5D] learning and decision-making supports people at a revolutionary moment of history. Everything is changing, literally and metaphorically.
Whether speaking and listening, or reading and writing, using creative and critical thinking, producing research and publication, online and offline, including political and media studies, communication ethics skills are foundational to human well being and life.
Communication Ethics History
In the 1960’s, international researchers organised a powerful response to the ‘Century of Wars’ (20th C.), re-situating human communicative potential as the centre for social-individual intelligence.
They reasoned that people learn from each-other naturally and culturally, while communication theory and practice can be applied to all domains of human activity.
Two great scientific insights emerged: 1) individual communication ability or skill is the basis for all human potential and 2) mass and individual miscommunication explains wider social failure and results in conflict.
Communication ethics emerged as a powerful ‘ethics of concern for life’ underpinned by multiple ‘logics of communication.’ Together, these two theories, ethics and communication, ground all human potential, protected by each citizen/state — with rights to life– to examine their own lives and their public rights.
For each communication ethics practitioner the question is how to evaluate what is right, what is true and how to construct useful lives within the dynamic digital age.
SCE’s [5D] VisualLogic supports learners to examine communication, information and data (CID) using easy-to-use visualisation tools and data science.
[5D] allows each user to identify and visualise underlying assumptions and arguments for themselves, using scientifically valid methods.
We welcome digital designers and data scientists to help our School build its [5D] VisualLogic platform and technology, once funding is completed via our Kickstarter Campaign.
