School of Communication Ethics

The School of Communication Ethics (SCE) is a worldwide digital learning centre with a local presence in the beautiful mountains of central Portugal.

Our School

A new world learning centre is a symbol of hope at a moment of incredible change.

Communication ethics offers a way of looking at the world that makes sense of the speed and complexity of modern life.

Communication between people and the skills of communication we each naturally possess, offer a critical way to examine our personal and social worlds.

Increasingly, communication skills and systems are regarded as central to all learning, all decision making and the growth of every human life.

Communication ethics is a disciplinary approach to learning grounded in easy-to-use methods and tools.

Learning Programmes

Learning new skills adds value to your entire career and future work.

Our school community integrates world citizenship and active student programmes using our unique [5D] VisualLogic.

Combining communication ethics [5D] learning and decision-making supports people at a revolutionary moment of history. Everything is changing, literally.

Whether speaking and listening, reading and writing, creative and critical thinking, research and publication, online and offline learning and political and media studies, communication skills are foundational.

Certified Courses

The SCE offers certified courses using methods for self-learning that translate across its digital membership and local student bodies.

Courses are provided in online formats and live where school groups are established.

In future the School will offer train-the-trainer learning programs where Members of the School are paid to deliver courses and training within their local community.

Communication Ethics History

In the 1960s, international researchers responded to the ‘century of wars’ (20th C.), by re-situating communicative potential as the centre for social-individual intelligence.

People learn from each-other naturally and culturally, while communication theory and practice are applied to all domains of human activity.

These two scientific insights 1) individual communication ability as the basis for human potential 2) mass communication distortion as the reason for failure, established via formal research, something new.

What emerged was a powerful ‘ethics of life’ with its co-equal logics of communication.’ Together ground for all citizens — with rights to life– to examine their own lives and public rights to life.

 Learning Programs

SCE’s three launch learning programs — see this website — include:

Communication Ethics

Life Values Learning

Students and citizens can sign-up to one or more of these online courses. Courses are delivered via video platform and pre-recorded material.

All SCE courses are produced using [5D] VisualLogic, enabling Members to adapt material to their own purposes.

School Governance

Our School is run by a group of international academics and national citizens committed to the public good.

We follow statutory regulations to protect learners both in the physical space of our learning centre in Portugal and across the virtual space of the internet.

School Members — just sign-up via the Home-page or Shop — are registered as part of the School’s democratic-network governance.

Together we create the opportunity for multiple learning communities to evolve and govern themselves, while joining an international federation of like-minded world citizens.

In a new age everyone is a learning citizen. Or as Marshall McLuhan described in a similar view:
‘There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all crew’ (1987, p. 325).

[5D] VisualLogic

For each learner the question is how to evaluate what is right, what is true and how to construct useful lives within our dynamic digital age.

SCE’s [5D] Visuallogic supports learners to examine communication, information and data using easy-to-use visualisation tools and data science.

[5D] identifies and visualises underlying assumptions and arguments for both creative and critical analyses, using scientifically valid methods.

We welcome digital designers and data scientists to help the School build its [5D] VisualLogic once funding is completed via our Kickstarter Campaign.
